Bassano is running for Italian
Capital of Culture 2029
Bassano del Grappa has officially started its nomination as Italian Capital of Culture 2029, presented at the Gallerie d ‘Italia in Milan.
A choice that stems from the recognition of the Veneto City of Culture 2025, conferred by the Veneto Region, and from a year of initiatives that have strengthened the role of the city as a living cultural centre, recognisable and capable of generating new perspectives.
The nomination is based on a historical, artistic and identity heritage of extraordinary value: from the Palladian Bridge on the Brenta to the Canova works preserved in Bassano, among the most important together with Possagno; from the public collection of Jacopo Bassano and his workshop to the Civic Museums, among the oldest in Veneto, founded in 1828. A heritage that spans the centuries and includes works, graphic collections, editorial memory, Bassano ceramics and decisive testimonies of local and national artistic history. Alongside the strength of memory, Bassano brings to the nomination the ability to produce culture today. This is demonstrated by recent experiences such as the exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Segantini, which has registered over 108 thousand visitors, the return of Antonio Canova’s Colossal Horse, the spread of Dance Well, born in Bassano and now present in Italy, Europe and Asia, and the title of Reading City, which the city has held since 2017.

The path towards 2029 therefore wants to tell the story of Bassano not as a “sheltered” city, but as a laboratory of the future: a place where heritage, beauty, participation, cultural enterprise and territorial relations can become an engine of social, economic and cultural development for the city and for the Pedemontana area.

ON THE WAY TO BASSANO 2029: CULTURE AS A DRIVER OF TRANSFORMATION
On the way to 2029, Bassano del Grappa becomes a laboratory for the future through the “Urban Renaissance” plan, the basis of its nomination as Italian Capital of Culture. It will not only be the symbolic places, such as the Civic Museum, Palazzo Sturm or the widespread stages of the Operaestate Festival that will be at the forefront: the entire city, with its 22 districts, regenerated areas and youth spaces, will become the scene of a shared transformation and a vision of culture that wants to embrace the entire foothill territory.Culture thus takes the role of a generative principle to rethink the community, making the challenge for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2029 a path of collective responsibility, to build together the Bassano of 2030.
